Roles within a music ensemble

      Working with music

As a musical ensemble everyone must be organized for the  band to function properly. In this presentation I will be explaining what roles and responsibilities each band member has.

                        Drums

One of the most important member’s of a band is the drummer he is important because he keeps the whole band in time. Also when practicing in a band or composing as an ensemble the drummer will or would use beats they have learn t or improvise a new one. When a drummer performs live they would have to assemble their drum kit and if they were the first or last band on other drummer’s would probably use it. This means the drummer would have to stay to the end of the gig witch would be very tiring as the rest of the band could go home while he waits. The drums can make a big difference of the sound and tone of a band witch could define how successful they are.

                        Guitar

The guitar/guitarist is another very important part of a music ensemble as they are a main part of the overall sound of the band that people will hear. The guitarist can have the responsibility of writing songs lyrically and on guitar. When it comes to live performance’s the guitarist has an easier job than other band members as he only has an amplifier to set up and tune his guitar. But sometimes it can be hard doing live performing as if the guitar isn’t setup properly or the strings are too old then it can easily come out of tune which would be a problem during live performing because it wouldn’t sound good which could reduce the bands chances of getting more gigs.

                          Bass

The bass is a vital part of a band as with most bands wouldn’t sound quite right without it. The bass has the responsibility’s of practicing and keeping his strings fresh. Usually the bass would follow the route notes of the guitar but usually the bassist would create there own unique baseline to the song’s the band has written. But sometimes it will just be basic.

                         Vocals

The vocalist is another key role in an ensemble as they are usually the centre of attention within a band and would usually take the role as leader of the band. As leader of the band they would write mostly all of the song’s lyrically. Like every other band member the singer must keep there equipment in good working condition, even though the singer may only use a microphone it still must be working properly as if it were to break or stop working during a performance it would not sound very professional.

                      Conclusion

As a band all member’s have there individual roles and responsibilities such as remembering to turn up to rehearsals. Keeping there equipment in working order especially for performance. If a band member is not very good or is lacking in effort to the band then usually the band leader (usually the singer) would make a decision with the rest of the band member’s  weather to keep the other member.
